reception

Maximize your laboratory's efficiency with a streamlined sample reception process

The process of sample reception at the laboratory can be stressful due to the large amount of samples and how these are being sent from collection sites. They can arrive all mixed up in a single bag or separate bags, but in both cases, oftentimes, they still have to be sorted, which usually requires conceding too much lab space for such a low-value operation.
More critically, most of the time, samples have to be scanned, one by one, to do the reception check-in and accessioning at the LIS, which is one of the most time-consuming and burdensome tasks in a clinical lab.
This preanalytical operation is essential for the analytical stage because it influences sample viability and test results turnaround time.

Sample reception is undoubtedly a source of major pain points for labs:

  • Samples arrive all mixed and bagged up
  • No visibility of what samples are being delivered
  • Stressful and disorganized stage, consuming a lot of area from the lab
  • Ineffective and time-consuming manual check-in at the LIS

Automated Sample Check-in

At the collection stations, by simply scanning samples and storing them in iRacks – a smart rack with RFID – indexor automatically collects the sample IDs and where each sample is placed in the iRack.

With this, sample reception will then be down to a single step: once the iRacks arrive at the lab simply place them into indexor. Each iRack can take up to 60 samples and indexor can read up to 8 iRacks at once – meaning that up to 480 samples can be accessioned in a single step.

Thanks to the Indexor LIS interface, accessioning and check-in can be combined into one step. Indexor automatically and immediately sends a message to the LIS for sample check-in, triggering the necessary digital workflow that follows.

Sample location in iRack

One of the greatest features of indexor is sample searching. With simply typing the sample ID indexor will automatically blink an LED light of the sample location in iRack.
